A Leadership Growth Opportunity for Experienced HIV Clinicians

 

We invite experienced HIV clinicians to apply to participate in this exciting virtual learning experience to form a community of practice, develop your leadership skills, and help you learn how to apply principles of creativity and innovation by designing and implementing an “Action Learning Project” that will be designed as a 3-month mini project that addresses a specific gap in HIV care at their institutions. Earn up to 18.0 CNE/CME/CPE Credits!

There is no fee to participate, but space is limited.

Key Components

  • Form a community of practice among 5-8 committed learners from interprofessional HIV care teams 
  • Pre-course work (reading materials and case studies focused on leadership, systems thinking, quality improvement, implementation science, and team-based care 
  • Six (6) live, one hour facilitated discussions to foster a community of practice where participants will discuss ideas for action learning projects, explore frameworks for project leadership, systems thinking and creativity and innovation; refine their projects; and provide project summaries
  • Each learner will develop, evaluate, and implement an Action Learning Project  
  • Each learner will submit a poster to an upcoming ACTHIV® 2026 conference to share their project with other HIV care team members

Value Proposition for Participating

Learners who participate in the ACTHIV® ChangeMakers program will enhance their leadership and teamwork skills so they can develop meaningful projects designed to improve the care of PWH or at risk for acquiring HIV within their own clinical practice settings. Learners will use these projects to demonstrate how they can enact local change and make a meaningful difference in their community. Learners will be coached to identify and address a problem that aligns with one of the 6 health care quality domains listed below:

Potential examples of topics and themes for Action Learning Projects include:

  • Improving care coordination and addressing team barriers to improve the management of PWH
  • Operationalizing key components of clinical guidelines such as the IDSA and HIVMA primary care guidance for persons with HIV  
  • Implementing new modalities in HIV treatment and prevention
  • Reducing stigma and promoting engagement of PWH along the HIV care continuum
  • Developing more effective patient education materials; translating content; addressing cultural contexts, etc. 
  • Incorporating telehealth to address psychosocial, nutrition, or other needs 
  • Addressing healthcare disparities that affect specific patient populations (eg, minority patients, people who use drugs, transgender individuals, etc.)
  • Forming new partnerships with local community organizations to engage and educate people about HIV prevention

Fees and Logistics:

  • There are no fees to participate in this learning experience.
  • Cohort slots will be open to HIV care team members (physicians, NPs, PAs, Nurses, Pharmacists) with at least 5 years experience caring for people with or at risk for HIV.
  • For the ACTHIV® ChangeMakers program, we will hold virtual meetings on the following dates/times:
  • Fridays from 3-4 pm Eastern Time; 2-3 pm Central Time; 1-2 pm Mountain Time; 12-1 pm Pacific Time  
  • 8/29/25; 9/19/25;  10/24/25; 11/21/25; 12/19/25; 1/16/26
  • Healthcare professionals accepted to participate will be expected to complete all components of the program. If you do not feel you can commit to this, we ask that you please do not apply to the program and potentially take a slot from someone who can make this commitment.

 

CME/CE Credit

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by American Academy of CME, Inc. and ACTHIV Institute. American Academy of CME, Inc. is Jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Physicians

The ACTHIV® Changemakers 2025-2026 activity has two components: an enduring material (self-study completed on your own time) and a live component (scheduled for 8/29/25; 9/19/25; 10/24/25; 11/21/25; 12/19/25; 1/16/26 that will take place as virtual meetings). Physicians who complete both parts can earn a maximum of 18.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. American Academy of CME, Inc. designates this enduring material for a maximum of  18 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurse Practitioners and Nurses

American Academy of CME, Inc., designates this educational activity for 18 ANCC contact hours. 

California: Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number CEP16993 for 18.0 contact hours

Physician Assistants:

American Academy of CME, Inc. has been authorized by the American Academy of PAs (AAPA) to award AAPA Category 1 CME credit for activities planned in accordance with AAPA CME Criteria. This activity is designated for 18.0 AAPA Category 1 CME credits. Approval is valid until May 3, 2026. PAs should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation.

 

Pharmacists:

This activity provides 18.0 ACPE Contact Hours (1.8 CEUs) of continuing education credit.
