LIVE WEBINAR
Case Studies in HIV Prevention Among Communities at High Risk for HIV
Wednesday, December 14, 2022
1 pm ET / 12 pm CT / 11 am MT / 10 am PT

Support for this activity has been made possible through
educational grants from Gilead Sciences, Merck,
Theratechnologies, and ViiV Healthcare.
Educational Need:
Access to HIV prevention, including preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) continues to improve. Despite this progress, PrEP access remains unevenly distributed among race and gender. Preliminary CDC data show only 9% (42,372) of the nearly 469,000 Black people who could benefit from PrEP received a prescription in 2020. While cis gender women make up almost 25% of people living with HIV in the US and excess risk of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events in individuals with HIV are amplified in women, PrEP coverage was also about three times less in 2020 among cis gender women (10%) as compared to males (28%). In order reduce new HIV infections in the U.S. by 90% by 2030, scaling up HIV prevention and treatment strategies in these populations will be critically important.
Using a combination of didactic presentation and case vignettes, this free interactive CME/CNE/CPE-certified webinar will aim to discuss and propose how multidisciplinary teams can implement solutions to overcome HIV prevention barriers faced by these populations.
Learning Objectives:
After participating in the activity, learners should be better able to:
- Identify potential missed opportunities to introduce HIV prevention among Black individuals and among cis gender women
- List the key components of effective sexual health history taking technique
- Create a workflow with your care team to engage patients in HIV prevention efforts and retain them in care
