ABOUT
In 2024 the WRI will host a meeting focused on “The Role of Policy in Access to HIV Research and Services Among Women Living with and Vulnerable to HIV” that examines the ways that law and policy affect health outcomes for women living with and vulnerable to HIV. Specifically, we will address the implications of recent federal and state policy and legislative decisions, such as those affecting the rights of LGBTQ people, dismantling affirmative action, and limiting women’s access to abortion, on women’s sexual and reproductive rights, access to health services, participation and engagement in research, and basic human rights.
The WRI 2024 will feature presentations and discussions that illuminate continuing gaps in knowledge that should be addressed in ongoing policy research. Because the WRI addresses topics through a problem-solving lens, this meeting will go beyond articulating the issues to developing a series of recommendations for how to effect policy change in the current environment to ensure equitable access to prevention, care, and research for women living with and vulnerable to HIV.
The Women’s Research Initiative on HIV/AIDS (WRI) was founded by The Well Project in 2003 to elevate, enhance, and expedite research on women and HIV. Each year, we select a theme that allows us to identify opportunities to accelerate understanding of HIV in women and convene a think-tank style meeting around that topic area. WRI participants represent the broad range of stakeholders engaged in this work, including women living with HIV, clinical care, HIV research, academia, advocacy, policy, government, and the pharmaceutical industry.
