ABOUT

In 2025, The Women’s Research Initiative on HIV/AIDS (WRI) will host a meeting focused on the “Evolving Landscape of Women and HIV Cure,” which will examine a range of issues to establish a holistic view of factors related to HIV cure that are meaningful for women living with HIV.

The WRI 2025 will feature presentations and discussions that both describe the current landscape of HIV cure research and seek to create a roadmap to ensure the equitable participation of women and their eventual access to a cure. Because the WRI addresses topics through a problem-solving lens, this meeting will go beyond articulating the issues to developing a series of recommendations for how to move the field forward. This is the second WRI meeting to address HIV cure and women. The first took place in 2016 and is credited by a number of researchers as having substantively advanced HIV cure research focused on women. The WRI is executing a second meeting on the topic to address the research nuances that have emerged since that time with the hopes of informing the next stage of research.

The WRI was founded by The Well Project in 2003 to elevate, enhance, and expedite research on women and HIV. Each year, we select a theme that allows us to identify opportunities to accelerate understanding of HIV in women and convene a think-tank style meeting around that topic area. WRI participants represent the broad range of stakeholders engaged in this work, including women living with HIV, clinical care, HIV research, academia, advocacy, policy, government, and the pharmaceutical industry.
